Raja Ampat, Indonesia, has long been on my bucket list since I started Indonesia Impression. Known for its pristine beauty and biodiversity, this archipelago is nothing short of magical located in West Papua Province Indonesia. My recent adventure to Raja Ampat was an unforgettable mix of breathtaking landscapes, marine wonders, and luxurious eco-friendly accommodations.
I began my trip at Papua Paradise Eco Resort, nestled on the unspoiled island of Birie; one of best resort for our clients in Raja Ampat Islands. Built over the turquoise waters, the resort offers more than 20 overwater bungalows with panoramic views of the ocean.
The eco-conscious design blends perfectly with the surroundings, creating a peaceful retreat. After a warm welcome from the staff, I spent the afternoon snorkeling right off the resort’s jetty, marveling at the vibrant coral reefs and marine life that Raja Ampat is renowned for. The day ended with a stunning sunset and a delicious seafood dinner, perfectly setting the tone for the adventures ahead.
The next morning, I visited Melisa Garden, a diving and snorkeling hotspot famous for its vibrant coral reefs. The underwater world here is a riot of colors, teeming with marine life. Schools of fish darted through the coral, while turtles and reef sharks made graceful appearances. Even as someone who has snorkeled in various places, the biodiversity at Melisa Garden was unmatched. I spent hours exploring the coral gardens, feeling like I was swimming in an underwater wonderland.
Then I headed to Piaynemo, one of Raja Ampat’s most iconic spots. The boat ride itself was a spectacle, weaving through emerald-green islands surrounded by crystal-clear waters. Reaching the top of the Piaynemo viewpoint was exhilarating. The panoramic view of karst islands dotting the azure sea left me speechless. The vibrant hues of blue and green are impossible to capture in words or pictures—they need to be experienced. This is my dream destination in Indonesia.
Today the trip was so perfect, after I snorkelled in the nearby lagoons, discovering a kaleidoscope of coral gardens and fish beneath the surface then we ended with soaking in the views in Piaynemo surroundings.
The third day in Raja Ampat Islands, I continue my adventure to Waigeo Island because Raja Ampat isn’t just about the ocean; it also hides unique inland wonders like the Blue River. This enchanting freshwater river flows through the dense jungle, its vibrant blue hue a stark contrast to the surrounding greenery.
Upon arrival, I took short trek along the river, soaking in the serene ambiance and spotting exotic birds and wildlife along the banks before swimming in the Blue River on Waigeo Island is an extraordinary experience, offering a refreshing break from Raja Ampat’s marine activities. The river’s water is an intense shade of blue, caused by the unique mineral composition and sunlight reflections. Its calm, clear flow creates an inviting natural pool surrounded by dense jungle, making it a serene and picturesque spot. The cool freshwater is perfect for a revitalizing swim, especially after exploring the nearby tropical environment. Swimming in the Blue River is more than just a physical activity—it’s a chance to immerse yourself in the unparalleled beauty and tranquility of Raja Ampat’s inland wonders. It’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave.
That evening, I checked into Vogelkopt Resort Waisai, a charming resort located on Waigeo Island. The resort offers cozy accommodations and is a great base for exploring Waisai and nearby attractions.
