Bugis people is one of Indonesian ethnic which are the inhabitant of South Sulawesi. This tribe is the biggest three after Javanese and Sundanese. Beside the indigenous who live in South Sulawesi, the immigrant of Minangkabau who wander from Sumatra to Sulawesi and the Malay people are being called as Bugis people. At present time, The Bugis is spread to all over Indonesia like Sulawesi Tenggara, Sulawesi Tengah, Papua, Kalimantan Timur, Kalimantan Selatan even to going abroad. Bugis people are the the most group who insist to spread the Islamic religion.

Home to some Sulawesi's most stunning landscapes and one of Indonesia's most compelling traditional cultures, it's no wonder Tana Toraja is high on many bucket lists. The visual allure is immediate, with villages clustered around elaborately carved and painted houses with boat-shaped roofs, and towering terraces of emerald green rice paddies, all of which is overseen by a protective necklace of jagged jungle-clad hills.

While most people consider attending a funeral here to be a highlight of their visit, Tana Toraja also offers some great do-it-yourself trekking, cycling and motorbiking through its evergreen landscape of spellbinding beauty.

Highlights

Visit Sengkang, a small village located in the center of the former Bugis kingdom on the Lake Tempe. Stop at Bantimurung located 42 km east-north Makassar, in a steep limestone valley with tropical vegetation, and a 15 meter high waterfall
If you are lucky you will catch the beautiful views of the sunset over the Lake Tempe
We will take you across the lake by motorized canoe and visit the fishermen families living on the floating villages.
Visiting the traditional Silk Factory where you can see the traditional spinning and weaving of silk material by Buginese women
Take you out on the picturesque drive to Toraja with approx 8 hours driving along the Bugisnese villages with their typical houses
Stop in Puncak Lakawan to enjoy the spectacular view
Full day exploring Toraja visit Lemo to see rows of Tau Tau statues and the hanging graves
Londa to see ancient tombs in which the deceased was not buried, but placed among the rocks
At KeteKesu one of the oldest Torajan villages we can see Tongkonan (the traditional ancestral house, or rumah adat of the Torajan people
Full day discovery trekking tour from Kandora village,passing through Palipu village then onwards to Suaya via Gantarang village then to Tampangallo

Itinerary

Day 1 :Arrival – Makassar – Sengkang (Lake Tempe) (L,D)

Upon arrival at Hasanuddin Airport Makassar, transfer to Sengkang, a small village located in the center of the former Bugis kingdom on the Lake Tempe. On the way you will visit Bantimurung located 42 km east-north Makassar, in a steep limestone valley with tropical vegetation, and a 15 meter high waterfall. Lunch en route. In the afternoon, if you are lucky you will catch the beautiful views of the sunset over the Lake Tempe. We will take you across the lake by motorized canoe and visit the fishermen families living on the floating villages. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight at hotel in Sengkang.

NOTE: The water elevation in Lake Tempe will be low during the dry season. Not recommended to crossing the lake.

Day 2 : Sengkang – Toraja (B,L,D)

After breakfast, visiting the traditional Silk Factory where you can see the traditional spinning and weaving of silk material by Bugisnesse women. After that, proceed to Tana Toraja via Palopo, passing through spectacular view along the road to Toraja. Lunch en route. In the afternoon arrive in Rantepao. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight in Hotel.

Day 3 : Toraja (Lemo, Suaya, Londa, Kete Kesu) (B,L,D)

After breakfast, a full day exploring Toraja. First you will visit Lemo to see rows of Tau Tau statues and the hanging graves. Onwards to Suaya to discover the secrets of baby trees, and then proceed to Londa to see ancient tombs in which the deceased was not buried, but placed among the rocks. At Kete Kesu one of the oldest Torajan villages you can see Tongkonan (the traditional ancestral house, or rumah adat of the Torajan people), and also the old traditional rice barns with colorful woodcarving. Lunch in Rantepao. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight at Hotel.

Day 4 : Toraja (batu Tumonga, Soft Trekking, Weaving Center) (B,L,D)

After breakfast, another full day exploring Toraja. We will drive you to Batu Tumonga best known for its spectacular view of rice terraces. If possible you can walk along the countryside to see the daily life of Torajan people. Lunch will be served at the local restaurant. In the afternoon, visiting Pallawa, Sa’dan, known as the weaving center of Rantepao, before heading back to the hotel for dinner at local restaurant and overnight in hotel.

Day 5 : Toraja – Makassar – Departure (B)

After breakfast, transfer back to Makassar. Lunch will be served in a seafood restaurant in Pare-Pare. Afterwards, transfer directly to Hasanuddin Airport Makassar to catch the flight for your next destination.
